Single delta in the wide world, declared a Biosphere Reserve, with an area of 5.800 km2(2.5% of Romania's surface), the 22nd delta in the world and the third in Europe (after Volga and Kuban). It is one of the biggest weslands of the world (as a habitat for aquatic birds), the most large area of compact reedbed an the Earth, a real museum for biodiversity, with 32 types of ecosystems, a natural gene bank with inestimable value for world's natural heritage.
