The Danube Delta is one of worldwide largest wet zones having an international importance as a aquatic birds habitat. About 300 bird species were recorded within the Delta’s territory from which 200 are protected by Berna Convention.
Besides the high number of bird species, the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve holds huge number of individuals like:
- the greatest population of Pelicans from Europe (8000 individuals)
- 60% from the worldwide population of Pygmy Cormorant (6000 individuals)
- 50% of the entire population of Red-breasted gooose in winter time
(40 000 individuals)
- 200 individuals of Dalmatian pelican
The Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve combines the pleasure of a boat trip on the channels network of the delta with the excitement of the discovering of the bird species which are living here.
Birdwatchers and visitors of the Danube Delta can observe birds like Cormorants, Herons, Little Egret, Glossy ibisis, Spoonbills, Pelicans, Swans, Falcons, Ducks, Geese, Terns or Gulls.
With a little bit of luck and a good equipment tourists may capture in view some rare or small birds which passes their ways such as White-tailed eagle, Osprey or the beautiful Kingfisher.
